Let’s talk Hearthstone

Hearthstone is a Digital Trading Card Game created by blizzard based on their old trading card game called World of Warcraft TCG. unfortunately it was not so popular in my country. i did manage to get a class deck and a themed raid deck, which makes WoW TCG a more unique game from the usual TCG out there.

Why play Hearthstone?

If you have been playing trading card games like Magic the gathering, Pokemon, yu-gi-oh! and many more, you will feel right at home with a World of Warcraft themed card game. or you can be straight up Blizzard fan. But most importantly is very accessible to everyone, it even plays on a mobile phone!

Having a digital 24/7 game that you can play anytime is actually very engaging consider that if i am playing the traditional card game i have to go to my local game store and play or my local community. which has a perk where digital games does not provide, good ol’ social interaction, downside is that on a slow day it's hard to find players.

So on to the common question now, Is Hearthstone P2W? 

A straight up answer is NO. There is no special advantage in game that can be bought by cash. Only cosmetic character and card back that does not impact the game. every card is obtainable by just playing the game. Paying for something obtainable in game is ok, because its trading money over time. Also in the trading card business you will need to buy booster pack anyways.

Next part, Microtransaction. All trading card game out there sells booster pack and singles for every deck builder out there, a quick breakdown on cost :

Magic the gathering sells a MSRP of 90 USD per booster box ( 36 booster pack ) which comes to 2.75 per pack ( 19 cents per card ) and Hearthstone 70 USD for 60 pack ( 23 cents per card )

Sadly for a digital card hearthstone came out more expensive if bought by cash. Note that physical TCG can vary in price as time, scarcity and demand. 

However good news is that all duplicates can be instantly trade for dust, which is another currency to obtain specific cards. Technically speaking you can easily dump all you old cards to get new and specific cards. Something that trading physical cannot do. But you cannot trade cards with other player, bummer.

How will i play hearthstone?

Straight up casual and no real cash transaction. As much as i love trading card game, it is a choice to keep Hearthstone a true Free to play game for me and specifically i will focus only the Tavern Brawl mode, maybe some low rank games highlight, just up to rank 20.
