It's that concept sale! featuring the Ares from Crusader Industries
Greetings Citizen! It's that time again with a Concept sale!
Note : concept sales are mainly to help with the development of star citizen and is not required to buy.
Introducing 2 combat ship from Crusader Industries. The Ares Ion and the Ares Inferno.
The main feature of this ship is the massive Size 7 weapon, with the Ion a Lazer platform and the Inferno a ballistic platform and both have a few slots for missiles as well.
Now being marketed as a Anti-Capital ship in a small size ship. This is definitely a specialist ship. With the price tag of 220 USD.
So how and who should use it? Flying with a fleet of course! This along with another similar role the Aegis Eclipse and the vanguard's, it's primary role would be dishing out the DPS to capitals and large ships, perhaps even medium size ships as well.
But let's look at some alternative, mainly from a solo player.
The Freelancer MIS is cheaper, 4 size 3 ballistic cannon lots of missiles and a cargo space to boot for only 175 USD. Which is a great versatile ship for a solo player. Next would be the vanguard's starting with 260 USD slightly more expansive, you get 1 size 5 with 4 size 2 nose gun, does not come with cargo but you get a gunner turret and 2 more combat variant of you so choose. Both of these ships comes with bed(s) but they are medium size ships.
The small counterpart would be the Aegis Sabre, the Anvil Super hornet and the Anvil Hurricane, costing 170, 180 and 195USD respectively. These combat ship are build primarily for Dogfight, with the Hurricane being more of a strafing run ship which is the actual competitor and correct comparison to the Ares the only key difference is that the Ares only needs a pilot and has the biggest possible gun yet on a small frame where as the Hurricane or any other ship require 2 pilots at least to be effective.
Update : looks like the Ares would be a medium sized ship as the components and the current measurement points towards it. This changes the view slightly as the comparison would be to a vanguard. Updated opinion below.
Being a strike craft like the real world A-10, Thunderbolt, which is strapping a ship to the biggest gun you can find. The Ares does exactly that, find a target and apply damage. Being said the Ares would not be nimble but that comment will be reserved until it reach flight ready status.
Also note that the Ares does come with a good amount of Size 5 and Size 3 missile slot, great as a deterrent for other small combat ship.
The only 2 question, does it have a bed? and is the weapon on the Ares interchangeable.
I would get this ship but only when the Q&A is up. So stay tuned and I will see you in the verse.

Update : Since Ares is a medium size ship. It will become a a choice to choose between a specialised combat ship like the Aegis Eclipse which is a torpedo based "Ares" or the versatile Freelancer MIS and the Vanguard Variants.
I would love to have a bed on the ares, but we shall see.
