Soul Ark early impression
Greetings
A new mobile RPG is here, Soul Ark.
First of all I would like to cover the Mobile MMO RPG ganre as they are quite a staple these days.
First to cover is the gacha mobile RPG. If any game mention with this tag it must and will consist the following items.
The main highlight is the character roster, usually this is very huge like more then 20-30 playable character huge. Which in this case Soul Ark has it, and the characters from soul ark are quite interesting in design but plays out the same in any other gacha game.
On top of the huge roster, all the character have a "star/tier/grade" rating. This is to use the multiple duplicate character mechanic, e.g. if you want to increase your characters stats and abilities using the same character in the levelling up process will increase or gain massive exp.
Being a gacha game, event time limited character will be offered during that time. A common marketing strategy to get you spending.
And that concludes the basic of a gacha mmorpg.
Next being a Mobile rpg game. There are a few core mechanics that I want to see, and it's kind of a staple for these games lately.
Auto Play , now this first mechanic will make or break a Mobile rpg game as by tradition most rpg games out there involves in grinding, for Asian mobile games, heavy grinding is a classic and staple feature. Something I grew to hate the "grind" as of late. Auto Play helps by reducing the mental fatigue during play time as you just need to optimise your characters for a smooth run. To me this is a valuable feature. I know some classic rpg does not need like final fantasy tactics but unless it's more on skill and placement rather then stats I bet most are just plain straight forward get better stat to win.
Which in this case Soul Ark has an Auto play feature with speed up too!
Ok now the impression for soul ark.
Surprisingly the theme for soul ark is good. Being a mash up of present day style in a cyber fantasy anime world. Not too far in the future cyber fantasy style. Which is refreshing to see. The graphic takes a more 2D sprite style with a little 2.5D 3d graphic. For this I bet it's the game selling point.
Noting much yet as I just started to play the game, but in general it's a good take for a gacha mobile rpg as the theme and art style is not the generic sword and sorcery fantasy.
